O.M. studio

O.M. Studio found its identity amidst the backdrop of the 2020 lockdown. Artists Krislyn Komarov and James Benn, armed with the companionship of good coffee, music, and protective masks, embarked on regular artistic therapeutic sessions throughout the initial year of the pandemic. Faced with the stagnation of shops and resource chains, the pair delved into their cherished reservoirs of materials and tools, ingeniously crafting amidst the limitations.

Reflective of the era’s circumstances, the resulting artworks exude a raw and brutalist essence, showcasing a dynamic interplay of gypsum, marble powder, steel, wax, rope, linen, and found objects. These creations formed the pioneering bedrock of O.M. Studio’s inaugural collaborative series, setting the tone for an ongoing artistic series.

PROCESS

Krislyn and James collaborate on most of the work that come from the studio. Within each creation, a particular ethos tends to lean toward either one’s sensibility. While drawing inspiration from the natural world, both artists take distinct approaches. James gravitates towards a microscopic perspective, drawing inspiration from the intricate structures and architectural elements of nature and materiality. On the other hand, Krislyn’s viewpoint delves into the ethereal realm of dreams and emotions.

“Early on, we discovered that as we come together, work together, and connect a distinct vision emerges that aligns either closely with my voice or James’ perspective. This wonderful phenomenon occurs when mutual support and insights from each other provide a sense of kinship and serve as inspiration for its evolution. James lends structure to my dreams and I contribute narratives to James’ architectural concepts” -Krislyn Komarov
